On October 18, the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, **Maurizio Fugatti**, participated in the breakthrough of the exploratory tunnel of the **Brenner Tunnel**, an event deemed historic for both Italy and Austria. During the ceremony, which was attended by prominent political figures such as Prime Minister **Giorgia Meloni** and Austrian Chancellor **Christian Stocker**, Fugatti emphasized the significance of this strategic project for **sustainable mobility**, highlighting its positive impact on the Alpine regions and cross-border cooperation. The tunnel, measuring 57.5 kilometers in length, will facilitate rail connections between Northern and Southern Europe. Fugatti also mentioned the importance of access works to the tunnel that directly concern Trentino, such as the Trento bypass and an upcoming meeting with local authorities to discuss the Rovereto section. With significant progress in the construction, the exploratory tunnel has been excavated at a depth of approximately 1,400 meters and is intended for geological and maintenance purposes, while work continues towards the completion of the entire planned tunnel system.
