In Castiglione delle Stiviere, art becomes a tool for expression and identity for the elderly with the exhibition “Dream and Identity at Every Age.” The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on Saturday, October 18 starting at 3:00 PM at Palazzo Menghini, showcases works created by the residents of the RSA “Zanetti Cominelli”. This initiative stems from an art therapy project that celebrates creativity and personal expression in later life, offering a new artistic and social perspective in the context of Lago di Garda. A Journey of Free Expression The project, curated by holistic art therapist Katia Bernardinis, has developed as a shared journey in which the stories and emotions of the elderly have taken form in works free from formal constraints. The main intent was not to achieve technical perfection, but rather to enhance the inner message. Through art, participants had the opportunity to rediscover a positive self-image, improve interpersonal relationships, and give voice to their inner world. Creativity and Recycled Materials Under the guidance of Katia Bernardinis, the guests of the facility explored the use of simple and recycled materials. Elements such as shaving foam, glitter, spray paint, and fabrics were transformed into tools to unleash their imagination. This approach allowed the budding artists to express hopes and reflections on current and social issues, creating symbols that, among other things, “aspire for peace and discourage wars.” The local civic collection also served as inspiration, stimulating the affirmation of territorial identity. Support from Institutions This initiative has been made possible through the collaboration between the Municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere, represented by Mayor Enrico Volpi and the Culture and Tourism Councillor Massimo Lucchetti, and the Zanetti Cominelli Foundation, chaired by Alessandro Perdomini. The Foundation has fully recognized the importance of creating a shared and non-judgmental space, where expressive and therapeutic potentials could merge into an experience of inclusion. Art therapist Katia Bernardinis dedicated her work to the participating elderly, stating: “I dedicate my first work of ‘therapeutic art’ to these passionate gentlemen and ladies, with the awareness that every hour spent with them makes me a better person.” Italian Version
