In the past two years, the Gavardo Hospital has achieved significant success with fourteen liver transplants, the result of collaboration between the Liver Unit and third-level transplant centers. This accomplishment highlights the importance of proximity healthcare, demonstrating that even smaller healthcare facilities can provide complex and high-quality care. The Liver Unit, operational since 2023, has strengthened its collaborative network with the facility in Manerbio and regional centers, successfully performing procedures on patients already under their care. Currently, four patients are on the waiting list for a scheduled transplant. Professionals at the Liver Unit emphasize that this clinical model is based on trust and continuity of care, enabling local hospitals to ensure excellence in patient treatment. Gianluca Zollo, head of Hospital Procurement Coordination, reiterated the importance of organ donation for the success of transplants, stating that every part of the system is crucial for saving lives.
