Brentino Belluno: Hiking Accident Requires Mountain Rescue
On the morning of Friday, April 25th, two young hikers were injured due to a landslide along the cliff of Vajo dell’Orsa, in the municipality of Brentino Belluno, at the foot of Monte Baldo. The alert was triggered shortly after 11:00 AM when the 118 emergency center activated the Verona Mountain Rescue to intervene on a trail in the “winter” sector, where a group of friends from Parma was hiking. A large boulder broke loose from the rock face, striking the boy on the head and causing him to fall, while the girl following him was hit by the rock.
Rescue teams quickly arrived on the scene thanks to the Verona Emergency helicopter, which transported a doctor and a mountain rescue technician. Despite the challenges posed by dense vegetation, rescuers managed to reach the injured hikers. The girl sustained a suspected ankle injury and was stabilized before being airlifted to the hospital. The boy, who suffered more severe injuries to his shoulder and knee, was immobilized and retrieved via winch to be transferred to Negrar Hospital for further medical evaluation.
