The recent meeting of the Steering Committee in Rome provided a decisive boost for the new Garda wastewater treatment plant located in Esenta, with updates on the final design presented by Acque Bresciane, which will be submitted by the end of the year. Among the solutions discussed, a subaqueous pipeline from Toscolano to Salò was proposed to mitigate the impact on traffic along the Gardesana Occidentale, avoiding prolonged construction periods. Additionally, there is consideration for partial use of treated water during winter and a thermal exchange with the Feralpi steelworks. Regarding funding, the project has seen an increase in available funds, rising from 60 to 90 million euros, but there are still 45 million euros that need to be secured. The commitment of the municipalities to contribute financially through the tourist tax has been emphasized, although the mayors have yet to formalize any contributions. The Lombardy Region has expressed interest in co-financing the initiative. However, challenges remain in securing financial coverage to complete the sewage system in the Verona area, and additional state resources are required to adapt the Peschiera treatment plant to the new wastewater regulations.
