The Metro Laghi project, which will connect Peschiera to Mantova, is progressing thanks to the approval of the technical-economic feasibility document, signed by the President of the Province, Carlo Bottani. This railway connection, with an estimated cost of 340 million euros, will span 34 kilometers, largely following the route of the old railway that was decommissioned in 1966. The new name “Metro Laghi” reflects the intention to transform the lower Garda area into a sprawling urban hub, featuring intermodal stations for shuttle buses, park-and-ride facilities, and pedestrian and cycling paths. The project is expected to be completed in four years, but currently lacks financial backing. Three new stations will be built in Salionze, Parco Sigurtà, and Monzambano, while existing stations will be reused. Additionally, viaducts are planned to overcome obstacles such as disused quarries and highway interchanges. If the project extends to nearby amusement parks, a significant increase in annual passengers is anticipated, rising from 700,000 to over 1 million. A new train inspired by the historic Littorina of Mincio will be designed to provide travelers with breathtaking views along the route. Italian Version
