Scammers Impersonate Police in Garda Phone Calls, Authorities Warn

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the arm.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or municipal police department.

How to recognize frauds and how to respond

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be alert and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear and do not show themselves again.
