Scammers Pretend to Be Carabinieri in Garda Region, Officials Warn

They pretend to be Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines from the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who at different times claim to be part of the financial police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately alert the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

when holding the sum of money, disappear thereafter.
