After the loss of his companion, Rojo, the resident scarlet ibis at the Natura Viva Park in Bussolengo has welcomed a group of 20 young specimens from the Netherlands. The passing of his partner at the end of September prompted the park staff to act quickly to provide Rojo with new companionship, which is essential for this gregarious species. After four weeks of preparations and health checks, the scarlet ibises were introduced to a large aviary of over 200 square meters, where they can socialize once again and enjoy environmental conditions similar to those of their natural wetland habitats. The new group comes from Gaia Zoo in Kerkrade and has integrated seamlessly with Rojo. During their first days in their new home, the birds explored their environment by observing from above before venturing down to the ground. The park staff hopes that these ibises will also utilize the nursery dedicated to nesting to aid in the conservation of the species, which is threatened by the loss of natural habitats. With the arrival of winter, Rojo and his new companions will have the option to choose between the warmth of the indoor enclosures or the large aviary to bask in the sun. Italian Version
