In Toscolano Maderno, the construction of a fish ladder designed to facilitate the spawning of lake trout, an increasingly rare native species in Lake Garda, is nearing completion. This innovative “love elevator” will enable fish to overcome a height difference of 6 meters along the Toscolano stream, allowing them to reach the natural spawning beds located upstream. The structure, which will be clad in natural stone recovered from the stream, represents a significant step towards safeguarding local biodiversity and is part of a broader project initiated years ago with the restoration of the first stretch of the watercourse. The total cost of the project was 129,000 euros, with part of the funding provided directly by the Municipality. Deputy Mayor Vittoria Goi emphasized the importance of the project for enhancing the local ecosystem, while Germano Bana, spokesperson for the Brescia Fishermen’s Union, expressed hope that trout would be able to use this new ladder in the current season. Additionally, a fishing ban has been proposed at the mouth of the Toscolano to protect the efforts made over the years to conserve the species. Italian Version
