A serious incident occurred during the Apnea Championships in Riva del Garda, where Swiss athlete Martino Valsangiacomo, 33, set a new world record by reaching a depth of 93 meters in constant weight with fins. However, after completing his attempt, he felt unwell and required medical assistance. After being stabilized on-site, he was urgently transported to Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento via air ambulance.
The event, organized by FIPSAS in the waters off Porto San Nicolò over the weekend, experienced moments of great tension following the athlete’s health scare. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that Valsangiacomo receives the best possible support while the competitions continue.
