Sirmione and Tourist Harassment: Concerns for Women’s Safety
A 50-year-old man, a professional photographer on vacation in Sirmione, has been reported for tourist harassment after taking hundreds of photos of women without their consent. The incident occurred near the Scaliger Castle, where the man, with a camera around his neck, was capturing inappropriate images. Thanks to reports from citizens, the carabinieri intervened and apprehended him following an attempted escape. During the search of his mobile phone and camera, over 5,000 photos were found, taken not only around the lake but also in other Italian cities such as Rome, Florence, and Venice.
The investigation was initiated after one of the victims filed a complaint against him. The man now faces up to six months in jail for his actions. This case has reignited the debate on women’s safety in public spaces and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior that could jeopardize personal integrity during tourist experiences.
