A marine tragedy struck Padenghe sul Garda this morning, Saturday the 12th, when a port worker fell into the water during work operations. The emergency call was made around 8:40 AM to the Coast Guard Operations Center, reporting that the man was in distress and sinking in the harbor. Despite the immediate intervention of the Coast Guard vessel and the subsequent support from firefighters’ divers, the worker’s body was not located right away due to the murky waters.
After several minutes of searching, the body of Musiliu Sunmola, 59 years old and a father of three, was recovered from a depth of about three meters. The emergency medical team that arrived on the scene could only confirm his death. Investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident have been assigned to the personnel of the Salò Coast Guard, with the collaboration of local police to ensure the safety of the area. The man had worked at West Garda for many years and was originally from Nigeria.
