A tragic kitchen fire struck Sirmione on Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of 85-year-old Silvana Bettanini. The incident occurred in her home in Colombare while she was preparing dinner for her son. A sudden flare-up from the stove quickly engulfed the elderly woman, causing burns over 90% of her body. Neighbors, alerted by her screams, immediately contacted the fire department and an ambulance.
Due to the severity of her injuries, air rescue was called in to transport Silvana to the Civile hospital in Brescia. Unfortunately, despite the doctors’ efforts, the woman passed away on Wednesday afternoon after a day of agony. Silvana was the widow of Bruno Parolini, a well-known alpine soldier in the town who passed away in 2021; she leaves behind her children Stefania, Roberta, Fabio, and Bruno.
