Desenzano del Garda Hospital: the committee calls for a discussion on public health
Recently, the Committee to Keep the Hospital of Desenzano on Montecroce raised concerns regarding the construction of the Desenzano del Garda Hospital, accusing the Assembly of Mayors of avoiding a necessary discussion for the protection of public health. In a communication dated May 15, 2025, President Lavelli stated that the assembly does not have direct authority to discuss the establishment of a new healthcare facility, which prompted the committee to send a formal letter requesting an urgent convening of the assembly and an opinion on this important project.
The Committee criticizes this position as an abdication of the institutional role of the mayors, emphasizing that according to the current regulations, it is necessary to express an opinion on significant interventions for the local healthcare organization. Furthermore, they are requesting the convening of a public assembly to ensure citizen participation in strategic decisions regarding the new facility. The Committee expects a response within 30 days and warns that, in the absence of a reply, legal action may be taken to protect the right to civic participation.
