An important research project has been launched to explore the prehistory of the Ledro Valley through the analysis of ancient DNA. On Sunday, August 3rd, at 10 AM, a presentation will be held at the Lake Ledro Palafitte Museum, where the results obtained by MUSE – the Museum of Sciences in Trento, in collaboration with other academic institutions, will be showcased. The initiative actively involves the local community by analyzing the DNA of 100 residents and comparing it with human remains found at the palafittic archaeological site, including a child who lived approximately 4,000 years ago.

During the event titled “Geni ledrensi,” experts in the field will present data from genetic investigations that have revealed significant genetic variability between current and ancient inhabitants. Among the most noteworthy discoveries is the genetic profile of the “Child,” whose DNA shows influences from the steppes, suggesting important migrations and cultural intermixing during that era. This project not only deepens the understanding of the origins of the Ledro community but also aims to reconstruct the physical traits of the ancient inhabitants to symbolically return them to their homeland.
