Lombardy reaffirms its position as the top region in Italy for cinema audiences and screenings, with an impressive total of 14.7 million viewers in 2024, accounting for 20% of the national figure. With nearly 500,000 films screened (18% of the total), the region demonstrates a strong connection to cinema, bolstered by a regional investment of 8.8 million euros aimed at strengthening the industry. The Councillor for Culture, Francesca Caruso, emphasized the significance of these figures, noting that Lombardy hosts the highest number of active organizers in the film sector and over 1,700 businesses.
Furthermore, to further support this vital sector, the Region has allocated a financial provision of 5 million euros for performance activities and facility upgrades. Among the initiatives is the “Lombardy for Cinema” call, dedicated to film productions set in the region, as well as a specific fund of 300,000 euros to support the writing of screenplays inspired by Lombardy. Finally, additional support is directed towards independent cinemas through the Next call, aimed at promoting quality cultural programming in small municipalities and neighborhoods.
