Desenzanino Restaurant: No to Private Entities and Social Critiques
A significant change is on the horizon for the Desenzanino restaurant and the Desenzanino beach in Desenzano, as the Municipality, in collaboration with the Basin Authority, plans to put both spaces up for tender by September. After nearly thirty years of management by the social cooperative La Cascina, this new initiative will allow private companies to participate in the bidding process for the first time. However, this decision has sparked strong criticism from the minority council, which fears the exclusion of social entities that provide accessible and inclusive services.
The Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement have voiced concerns about the potential loss of the social value that characterized the previous management. Maria Vittoria Papa, the PD group leader, accused the Malinverno administration of pursuing a “fanatical profit” approach, while Andrea Spiller from the M5S emphasized how this opening to private companies could undermine social inclusion and increase costs for citizens. Spiller highlighted the historical significance of the Desenzanino as a vital public space for the community, warning that this change could mark the end of a positive experience that has lasted nearly three decades.
