International arrest in Desenzano del Garda for tax evasion
A 54-year-old Polish citizen has been arrested by officers from the State Police of the Public Security Commissioner of Desenzano del Garda, following the execution of a European Arrest Warrant issued by British authorities. The man, previously convicted by the Birmingham Crown Court for tax evasion and money laundering, was found to be illegally residing in the country and had a criminal record. He was located in a hotel in Sirmione and was taken to the Commissioner’s offices for the necessary extradition procedures.
After identification formalities were completed, he was transferred to the Nerio Fischione prison in Brescia, where he will await extradition to the United Kingdom. Investigations are currently underway to determine how the man entered the country and whether this is linked to criminal activities, as well as to map any connections that led him to stay in the Brescia area. The Police Headquarters emphasized the importance of international cooperation among law enforcement agencies, highlighting the effectiveness of systems like Interpol and Europol in ensuring justice.
