Sustainable mobility is reborn: the Metro Laghi project in Mantova

An ambitious project for sustainable mobility is taking shape with the creation of the Metro Laghi, which aims to restore the railway line between Mantova and Lake Garda, following the course of the Mincio River. This initiative, proposed by the Mantova branch of Italia Nostra and supported by the Province of Mantova, seeks to enhance accessibility in the affected areas, reduce road congestion, and stimulate tourism in peripheral regions. The planned route largely retraces that of the historic railcar discontinued in 1966, with some modifications to adapt to new infrastructure.

The feasibility study has been entrusted to a team of experts who will explore the best technical solutions for implementing the Metro Laghi, including the possibility of a battery-powered tram as a mode of transport. With an estimated cost of around 350 million euros, the next steps will involve seeking public and private funding to realize this important connection. Final details are expected in the coming months, while local authorities continue to work to ensure that the project meets the needs of the communities along the route.
