Structural failure in Sirmione: historic cemetery secured
A structural collapse occurred on the morning of Tuesday, September 2, within the historic cemetery of Sirmione, affecting two niches in the ancient part of the burial ground. Fortunately, there were no injuries during the incident, as the cemetery was closed to the public. The municipal administration promptly activated safety procedures: the damaged area has been cordoned off, and technical offices have been engaged to ensure the safety and removal of compromised materials.
Additionally, contact has been initiated with the families of the concessionaires of the affected niches, and technical inspections have been ordered to ascertain the causes of the collapse. The operations aim to determine the most appropriate methods for restoring the structures, in accordance with current regulations on the preservation of burial sites. Currently, the cemetery remains open to the public, except for the historic area that has been fenced off for precautionary reasons.
