Storm on Lake Garda: Coast Guard Rescues
A violent storm struck Lake Garda in the late afternoon of yesterday, Friday, September 5, bringing winds of up to 45 knots and waves exceeding one and a half meters. This adverse weather prompted numerous requests for sea rescue, which were managed by the Coast Guard of Salò in collaboration with the Fire Brigade, the State Police, and volunteers. The first intervention took place off the coast of Limone, where a sailing boat with four people on board was left adrift; all were rescued by volunteer firefighters from Riva del Garda and brought safely to the port of Campione.
Additional rescues occurred in the waters of Torri del Benaco, where a man stranded on his boat was assisted by firefighters dispatched from Bardolino. Subsequently, the Coast Guard coordinated three more interventions in the Gulf of Manerba, rescuing two Austrian tourists on San Biagio Island and four other boaters in distress. Finally, in Peschiera del Garda, three Dutch tourists received assistance from the State Police’s Inland Water Unit. The operations concluded around 9 PM with the safe mooring of the vessels in local ports. So far in 2025, the Coast Guard has already conducted 130 interventions in the area, assisting a total of 252 individuals, including swimmers and tourists.
