Tremosine and the Transhumance Festival: Tradition and Renewed Pasture

On Sunday, September 14, Tremosine will host the traditional Transhumance Festival, an event celebrating the return of herds from the mountain pastures. The festivities will kick off at 7:30 AM with the departure of a herd of sixty Brown Swiss heifers from the Ciapa dairy, located at an altitude of 1,953 meters above sea level. The animals will travel a route of approximately 20 kilometers, accompanied by numerous enthusiasts, including many young people, and are expected to arrive at the Alpe del Garda cheese factory around 11:30 AM.

The day will continue with celebrations that will include a lunch featuring spit-roasted meat and polenta, along with activities for children such as inflatable games and a mechanical bull. After the festivities at the cheese factory, the herd will depart at 4:00 PM to return to the social barn in the Bondo area, where it will reunite with the other cattle that remained in the barn to ensure the continuity of milk production. This event not only provides a break from the daily work of the farmers but also serves as a moment of conviviality and tradition for the local community.
