Road accidents in Brescia: increase in victims and safety measures
A crucial meeting took place yesterday at the Prefecture of Brescia, convened by Prefect Andrea Polichetti, to address the growing issue of traffic accidents in the province. Between January 1 and August 31, 2025, there were a staggering 48 fatal accidents, an increase of 13 compared to the same period the previous year. This alarming rise has prompted authorities to discuss concrete measures to enhance road safety and reduce the risks associated with driving.
During the meeting, which included representatives from law enforcement and agencies responsible for road infrastructure, strategies were outlined to intensify monitoring on the most accident-prone routes. Proposed actions include strengthening surveillance against speeding and reckless driving behaviors, as well as the potential introduction of new devices for monitoring violations of the Highway Code. Additionally, the issue of GSM coverage in provincial tunnels was discussed, aiming to ensure effective communication in case of emergencies within the tunnels.
