Desenzano del Garda and WWF Italy: initiative for environmental sustainability
In Desenzano del Garda, the launch of the partnership between WWF Italy and Lidl Italy took place, marking the beginning of the “Adopt Rivers and Lakes” project. The event saw the participation of over 100 volunteers who collected waste along the shores, while 12 divers and 8 freedivers worked to clean the underwater environments. The primary objective of this initiative is to protect freshwater ecosystems through scientific monitoring activities and awareness campaigns, aiming to clean up 50 stretches of rivers and lakes across Italy in the coming months.
Throughout the day, more than 100 kg of waste was removed, highlighting the importance of collaboration between citizens and businesses in addressing the challenges related to environmental sustainability. The discovery of a potentially new sponge species for the lake further underscored the need to protect this fragile ecosystem. The partnership not only aims to improve the quality of local waters but also to promote greater awareness of the importance of safeguarding natural habitats.
