Illegal racing in Valvestino: road safety in crisis
In Valvestino, illegal street racing continues despite a flurry of fines, averaging over two penalties per day for dangerous driving and modified engines. The closure of the SP9, ongoing until Tuesday, October 23, for safety works, has provided an opportunity to assess the checks carried out by the local police of Gargnano and Desenzano, aimed at combating the phenomenon of illegal racing involving cars and motorcycles in the heart of the park. Since the beginning of summer, word-of-mouth on social media platforms has attracted a large number of young people, especially foreigners, drawn to high-speed challenges through the bends of the artificial lake and towards Navazzo. The report from the last three weeks highlights around fifty tickets issued primarily to young drivers, with significant fines for speeding and unauthorized modifications to vehicles. The deputy commissioner of the local police in Gargnano, Monica Bertasio, emphasized that checks will continue throughout the autumn and winter. In response to the situation, the mayors of the affected municipalities have requested a reduction of the current speed limit, set at 90 km/h on the SP9, in order to enhance road safety in the area.
