Bridge safety in Brescia: innovation and technological monitoring

Brescia is facing growing concerns regarding the safety of bridges, a crucial issue for local infrastructure. With the increase in heavy traffic and wear and tear over time, the risk of sudden closures or structural collapses has risen. To address these issues, a conference titled “Innovative Management of Bridge Safety: Structural and Traffic Risk” will be held on Friday, September 26, at 10 AM, organized by the Order of Engineers of Brescia in collaboration with the University of Brescia. During the meeting, advanced methodologies for monitoring bridge-related risks will be presented, including an ongoing trial on a bridge along the Southern bypass. The pilot project involves the use of “Weigh-in-Motion” (WIM) devices and cutting-edge sensors to collect data on the structural response of bridges. Thanks to this innovative system, it will be possible to assess risk in real time and optimize maintenance strategies, thereby addressing the challenges posed by heavy traffic and aging infrastructure. The meeting will also feature the participation of national experts and representatives from the National Agency for Railway and Road Infrastructure Safety, highlighting the importance of collaboration between academia, institutions, and industry in tackling these critical issues for the future of innovation in infrastructure.
