Plastic Free Lombardy: 3 tons of waste removed by volunteers
On the weekend of September 27 and 28, environmental volunteers from Plastic Free Lombardia actively participated in the national Sea & Rivers initiative, removing 3 tons of plastic and waste from beaches, rivers, and parks. Approximately 255 volunteers joined in 13 events across the Lombardy region, contributing to a total of 2,847 kilograms of polluting materials collected. This mobilization is part of a larger project that involved around 6,375 volunteers throughout Italy, resulting in over 75 tons of waste removed during approximately 230 events. The action was coordinated by Matteo Bignardi, the regional representative of the association, who emphasized the importance of environmental protection not only for nature but also for human health. According to recent studies, a significant percentage of the plastic found in the seas originates from land via waterways. Since 2019, Plastic Free has organized more than 9,100 events, collecting over 4.7 million kg of waste, thus demonstrating its ongoing commitment to combating plastic pollution. Italian Version
