The community of Salò is mourning the tragic loss of Luca Pedrali, a volunteer with the Garda and a cave diver, who passed away on Thursday during a dive at the Su Golone karst spring in Oliena, Sardinia. The 59-year-old, active as a diver and rescue driver since 2022, has left a profound void among his colleagues at the local Garda Volunteers’ base. The funeral arrangements have yet to be scheduled, and the grief is palpable among the group members, who are awaiting news from Luca’s family in Sardinia. President Elia Samuelli, along with Commander Franco Rodella and Director Luca Cavallera, expressed their disbelief at the loss: “It was like a bolt from the blue.” Luca was well-known within the group and had shared significant experiences with them; the last farewell before his departure to Sardinia was filled with affection. Mauro Fusato recalled how they had collaborated in 2017 for his Italian depth record set in the upper Garda. His absence will be deeply felt within the volunteer community. Italian Version
