Dangerous pesticides in Trentino: petition for sustainable apple cultivation

Recently, WWF Trentino launched an online petition calling for a ban on the use of dangerous pesticides in apple production in the region. Trentino-Alto Adige is known as one of Europe’s leading apple producers, but the intensive use of chemicals in agriculture raises environmental and health concerns. Currently, it is estimated that between 20 and 25 pesticide treatments are applied annually for each hectare of apple orchard, contributing to the pollution of water, soil, and air. The campaign aims to gather at least 2,000 signatures over the coming months so that the request can be formally presented to producer consortia and relevant authorities. Among the contested pesticides are Captan, Ditianon, Fluazinam, and Glyphosate, all associated with serious risks to human health and the environment. WWF activists emphasize the importance of promoting sustainable apple cultivation that can ensure food safety without compromising public health and local ecosystems. Italian Version
