Adamello Park: the call for greater environmental protection

A meeting held in Darfo Boario Terme highlighted the need for greater environmental protection for the Adamello Park, with the associations Italia Nostra and Legambiente Lombardia expressing concern over recent proposals that could jeopardize the integrity of the protected area. During the event, attended by local administrators, experts, and citizens, there was a call to expand and strengthen protected areas, emphasizing that currently only 7% of Lombardy’s territory is safeguarded. The associations pointed out that Lombardy is lagging behind the targets set by the European Commission’s Nature Restoration Law, which requires significant habitat restoration by 2030. The organizations also reiterated the importance of parks as strategic resources for the sustainable development of mountain communities and as a defense against the effects of the climate crisis. “Parks should not be viewed as speculative commodities,” they stated, underscoring the need for innovative strategies and strong governance to ensure effective management of the Adamello Park. This meeting represents an important step in the environmental protection debate in the region, aiming to promote shared and forward-thinking management of the local natural heritage.
