Bonus facade fraud in Verona: one million euros seized

The Financial Police of Verona has uncovered a fraud related to the facade bonus, seizing tax credits valued at approximately 1 million euros. The operation stemmed from risk analyses concerning the use of tax incentives for construction projects, which allow for the transfer of tax credits to third parties. Investigations revealed that the legal representative of a company in the province was involved in a fraudulent scheme that exploited the tax data of unsuspecting taxpayers, creating fictitious credits without them ever having undertaken any renovation work. The illicit mechanism involved accessing the “tax drawer” of the clients, who were unwittingly turned into assignors of the fictitious credits, which were then monetized by the assignee. Investigators determined that these credits did not meet regulatory requirements and were established in a manner intended to deceive the tax authorities. The seizure of the tax credits was ordered by the local Public Prosecutor’s Office to prevent further offenses against the Treasury, while the liability of the accused will only be confirmed through a definitive criminal judgment.
