Illegal Races in Gargnano: Road Safety at Risk

An increase in illegal street racing characterized the summer season in Gargnano, but thanks to intensified monitoring by the local police, the phenomenon seems to be declining. Operations focused along Provincial Road 9, where young drivers and motorcyclists, primarily from Germany and Austria, gathered for high-speed challenges. In response to reports from residents, the municipal administration requested the intervention of the prefect of Brescia, leading to the implementation of coordinated services that included the use of drones and laser speed detectors.

The results of the controls are significant: between July and August, approximately 80 fines were issued, with 4 driving licenses and 17 registration certificates confiscated. Additionally, 11 vehicles were placed under administrative seizure. With the arrival of winter, illegal racing has lost momentum; however, local mayors are proposing a reduction of the speed limit, currently set at 90 kilometers per hour on the SP9, to ensure greater road safety during the upcoming summer season.
