Pietro Bellotti and Salò: The Painting of Venetian Seventeenth Century
On **December 18th at 6 PM**, the Auditorium of the **Library of Salò** will host the presentation of a volume dedicated to **Pietro Bellotti**, a painter from Roè Volciano, whose work is currently on display at the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice. The exhibition catalog, titled “Astonishment, Reality, Enigma,” explores Bellotti’s expressive universe, who lived between **1625 and 1700**, and highlights his distinctive style characterized by a strong inclination toward realism, sometimes approaching forms of proto-hyperrealism.
The event will feature the authors of the volume: Francesco Ceretti, a research fellow in Modern Art History; Michele Nicolaci, curator of 17th and 18th-century painting at the Gallerie dell’Accademia; and Filippo Piazza, a professor of Modern Art History. The presentation represents an important opportunity to delve into the figurative culture of 17th-century Venice and to discuss the complex interpretative enigmas associated with the figure of Pietro Bellotti.
