Via Montagna Lombarda Promotes Lombardy Hiking and Trails

The “Via Montagna Lombarda” is a new hiking itinerary of more than 800 kilometres linking six Lombardy provinces — Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Lecco, Sondrio and Varese — and 19 mountain communities, backed by nearly €4 million in funding and crossing six regional parks. Designed for medium-level walkers and families, the route integrates existing trails such as the Via dei Monti Lariani and the Sentiero del Viandante and runs through mountains, valleys and lakes.

The project aims to ensure year-round mountain accessibility with safe, well-marked paths, information points on technical and cultural features, and route variants to reach sites of environmental and historical interest. Local bodies including Ersaf and the mountain communities are involved and have expressed support, with the initiative presented as a promotion of sustainable, nature-respecting tourism in Lombardy.
