Lugana DOC Gains International Recognition in Major Wine Guides
In 1999, the Lugana DOC also received significant attention from the main Italian Wine Guides. Reports, mentions, reviews, and anything else that can merit recognition for this particular Garda DOC wine, rightfully considered one of Italy’s best wines and among the most appreciated worldwide.
In recent weeks, almost all the major guides have been presented and put on the market, such as the Michelin. With the Lugana DOC being mentioned for the first time, after 44 years of publication, in the geographic map of Italy’s leading wines.
The main guides and recognitions of the Lugana DOC
In the Guida al vino quotidiano published by Slow Food and presented at the recent Salone del Gusto di Torino, the 2,500 best Italian wines are listed. Among them, the Lugana DOC is present with 16 wineries.
Luigi Veronelli, the maestro and father of Italian enology, known and appreciated worldwide, in his Guida Oro of Lugana DOC wines, highlights 5 producers. 25 other Lugana DOC wines are marked by Luca Maroni as the most pleasant wines in the Guida dei vini italiani 1999. Among these, 3 are the Brut entries.
Finally, it is worth mentioning the annual editions of Vini d’Italia by Gambero Rosso with as many as 20 Lugana wines, many of which, besides being highlighted among the new entries, have been awarded the coveted two glasses.
Commitment and future prospects of the Lugana DOC
An excellent presence that underscores the constant effort of the Lugana producers and vinifiers – states Consorzio Tutela Lugana DOC president, Avv. Francesco Ghiraldi – in the professionalism of their work. This represents a milestone that certainly is not an endpoint but a new starting point towards ever better production, especially appreciated in both the national and international markets.
It is important to remember – affirms President Ghiraldi – that the Lugana DOC has managed to establish itself on markets worldwide in recent years, thanks also to the efforts that the consortium itself has made through intense promotion at the most important and frequented international wine fairs.
For example, we recently participated in China, a presence we will surely repeat again this year. Naturally, we are also looking forward to upcoming international events in Bordeaux and Düsseldorf (March 21-23, ed.), to be remembered.
