Lugana DOC Gains Global Recognition in Major Wine Guides 2023

In 1999, the Lugana DOC continued to receive significant attention from the leading Italian Wine Guides. Mentions, references, reviews, and other accolades evident of this special Garda DOC wine, widely recognized as one of Italy’s best wines and among the most appreciated worldwide.

In recent weeks, virtually all major guides have been published and released, such as the Michelin Guide, which for the first time since its inception 44 years ago, included the Lugana DOC on the map of Italy’s main wines.

The Guida al vino quotidiano, published by Slow Food and presented at the recent Salone del Gusto in Turin, lists the 2,500 best Italian wines. Among these, the Lugana DOC is featured with 16 wineries.

Recognition from experts and guides

Luigi Veronelli, the master and father of Italian enology, renowned and appreciated worldwide, listed five Lugana DOC wines in his Guida Oro. Additionally, 25 Lugana DOC wines are highlighted by Luca Maroni as some of the most enjoyable choices in the Guida dei vini italiani 1999. Among these, three are the mentioned Brut.

Finally, it’s worth noting the annual edition of Vini d’Italia by Gambero Rosso, which features 20 Lugana wines, many of which, besides being among the new entries, have been awarded the highly coveted two glasses.

Producers’ commitment and future prospects

A strong presence that underscores the consistent effort and professionalism of Lugana producers and vinifiers, as stated by the president of the Consorzio Tutela Lugana DOC, Avv. Francesco Ghiraldi. This milestone is certainly not meant as a final goal but rather as a new starting point toward an even better production, especially one appreciated by both national and international markets.

It must be remembered—affirms President Ghiraldi—that the Lugana DOC has established itself on markets worldwide in recent years, partly thanks to the efforts of the Consorzio itself, which has invested heavily in promotion through participation in the most important and frequented international wine fairs.

For example, we recall our most recent presence in China, an engagement we are sure to repeat this year as well. Naturally, we also look forward to participating in upcoming international events in Bordeaux and Düsseldorf (March 21-23, ed.).
