Mediatel Wins Trans Benaco Cruise Race on Lake Garda
It is Mediatel, the Crociera 0/A/B skippered by Giorgio Tacchi, with a total time of 8h 42’17”, that wins the Perpetual Trophy, created by artisan Silvano Baccolo, of the 13th edition of the Trans Benaco Cruise Race. The regatta was held on the waters of Lake Garda last Saturday and Sunday (July 24 and 25), with about eighty boats registered.
Victories and Classifications
Gonfi Gonfi, with a time of 8h 54′ 40″, skippered by Claudio Pinter, takes the Nando Pozzi Trophy. An important victory also because it was achieved by boats belonging to classes, Monotype (Ufo and Asso) and Cruiser class A, whose rules for the first race on Saturday included a Corno del Bo – Navene – Corno del Bo band to mitigate their clear dominance over other classes.
Apneumax, skippered by Andrea Ferrari, which crossed the Portese finish line after 3 hours and 23 minutes of navigation, secured first place overall in the second race, Riva del Garda – Portese.
The descent was not as fast as last year’s but was very challenging due to a Pélér that almost continuously accompanied the participating boats near Limone, with vigorous wind, during this exceptional and unique Garda regatta, held over two consecutive days.
In some cases, critical situations occurred, including breakages and dismastings, such as that of the exceptional and very fast New Zealand prototype Falco, by Gianni Boventi, and the Ufo Colpo di Fulmine by Giovanni Ferrari.
