Garda Uno’s Education Project Promotes Water Awareness and Environmental Responsibility

“For a Better Garda” is an Environmental Education Project organized by the Consorzio Garda Uno with several schools on the Brescia side of Lake Garda. This initiative essentially marked the conclusion of the interesting Expo Scuola-Ambiente event, which involved at least 8,000 students from schools across Lombardy and was hosted at the stunning Villa Tassinara in Desenzano del Garda.

This project also saw the participation of middle schools from Valtenesi, whose works generated great interest among experts in the Lombardy region. The middle school of Manerba presented students and families with a detailed analysis of water-related issues, and through the “Oroblu” project, explored the role of this vital resource, raising awareness that water is not an inexhaustible asset.

The primary goal is to teach the rational use of water, aiming to reduce consumption and wastage. The middle school of Padenghe instead focused on enhancing the historical understanding of the lake, viewing it both as an economic resource of the past and present, and raising students’ awareness about environmental protection, with particular attention to the study of the large collector leading to the Peschiera wastewater treatment plant.

The Theater Performances and School Activities

The theatrical performance “The Wave Tells,” created by 35 students of the extended day program at the middle school of S. Felice, aimed to encourage the audience to reflect on how modern humans have defaced and polluted the environment. The young actors remain optimistic: with sensitivity and a desire to “start over,” the world can change and regenerate itself.

Noteworthy was the use of simple materials for costumes and scenery, curated by director Sara Poli, along with modern music selected and performed by the students themselves. The middle school “Trebeschi,” with its three campuses in Rivoltella, Sirmione, and Pozzolengo, also participated.

The participating schools distinguished themselves through the quality and quantity of their work, demonstrating the high educational value developed around the project: scientific research on the water cycle and waste disposal in Desenzano, utilizing computers, posters, and videos—enhanced by beautiful musical backgrounds performed by the young students.

Statements from Garda Uno Consortium

Garda Uno Consortium cannot but be pleased with these results, achieved not only thanks to the experts who contributed their valuable expertise,” — stated Dr. Walter Romagnoli, a board member of Garda Uno — “but above all because of the significant contribution from the teachers of various schools, who demonstrated professionalism, enthusiasm, and the ability to anticipate a system of autonomous schooling that necessarily links the school to its territory and local production forces.”

“It is a rich experience filled with educational and civic values. The hope,” concludes Romagnoli, “is that such valuable synergy can continue through increasingly precise and fruitful procedures and agreements. It’s an exciting challenge for today and for the future of our environment and its inhabitants.”
