ITC Schools Enhance Learning with New Internet Infrastructure Before Fall Reopening

The school year at Itc begins with the theme of globalization: the world has entered (or is about to enter in the few days needed to complete the connections) each classroom that the newly restored building has made available for students and teachers. Naturally, this is a telematic, and thus virtual, opening — which is truly relevant for the times we are living through.

We must start from the evolution that the teaching profession has undergone, or could undergo, through the use of the internet: the key to everything is now there. For example, for those studying English, the BBC develops and distributes spectacular programs online, with perfect pronunciation, up-to-date vocabulary, idiomatic expressions as heard in the most famous metro in the world. Connecting can be very beneficial, provided that the teacher has also learned how to use this intangible, insubstantial, elusive «textbook» in daily interactions with students.

Use of the network in schools

The same can obviously be said for those interested in Corinthian capitals and wishing to analyze their variations on the theme; or the poetics of infinity in Leopardi’s Canti and related works. So far, in the traditional Gardesano schools, when a teacher decided to use the internet, one could observe, during free periods between classes, the migrations of students to the computer room, the only facility equipped with the necessary technological support. These migrations, of course, had to be coordinated with colleagues, as supervising a class at the installed computers excluded other potential users.

At Itc, prior to the major renovation, a simple consideration was made: it is possible to bring the mountain to Muhammad when Muhammad cannot go to the mountain. And so, an additional ducting was installed, through which cables are run to connect all classrooms, from the first to the last, to a central computer hub.

Telephone line, TV cable, connection to a network of PCs: from now on, it will be enough for a teacher to bring any computer and a television to class to open a window on the world, making the vast potential of the internet always and everywhere accessible. When lessons resume on September 18, these connections will still not be operational.

The work has been approved by the province that owns the building, awarded but not yet completed: however, it should be finished within a few weeks, as it mainly involves pulling some wires, they assure. For the first days of October, the world will remain small for a little longer.
