Schützen Company of Arco: Historic Celebrations and Upcoming Events
It’s time for a review and, at the same time, plans for the Schützen Company of Arco. 2000 closed with the revival of the Festa delle Corone dell’Avvento (Christmas Wreath Festival) (see photo), which took place last December 3rd and was attended by a participation that left the organizers more than satisfied. The upcoming events have already been scheduled.
First Event and Historic Celebrations
The first event, Thursday, January 25th, will be the mass celebrated at the eremo of S. Paolo in Ceniga. Historical documents attest that every January 25th, on the anniversary of the conversion of S. Paul the Apostle, the Schützen would attend the rite with their badges and banners.
The Easter Cavalcade and the Ancient Votive Offering
The Easter Cavalcade scheduled from March 25th to April 1st will be much more demanding: honoring the ancient votive offering from 1631, made by Archduchess Claudia Augusta (who, among other things, granted Arco the title of city), the Arco Schützen on horseback will ride to Hall carrying olive poles.
The Re-foundation Festival and Commemorative Activities
On April 20th, 21st, and 22nd, the Re-foundation Festival (the oath) of the Company will take place, featuring the blessing of the flag, which was created based on the description provided by Marcabrini in his 1800 manuscript.
As part of the festival, which will be attended by numerous representatives from other companies (including the one in which Count d’Arco Maximilian la Audorfer is a member), there will be performances that will bring the Castle of Arco back to life, providing an ideal setting to revive ancient traditions and the work of our valleys.
