Navigarda Responds to December 31 Ferry Breakdown on Lake Garda

On December 31st, the ferry broke down, disrupting the plans of dozens of people who suddenly had to face a long series of inconveniences, and Alto Adige, yesterday, hosted their complaints.

Today, the response comes from Navigarda, through engineer Marcello Coppola, Director of Operations for lake navigation on Lake Garda, who does not deny that the breakdown of the ferry “Mincio” caused numerous problems, but rejects the accusation, albeit veiled, of disorganization within the navigation company.

“Navigarda,” explains Coppola, “learned of the landslide at 7:30 p.m. on December 22, and less than twelve hours later, the ‘Mincio’ was back in full service. All staff, from captains to engineers, from workers to ticket agents, immediately returned to work without hesitation.”

Some rejoined quickly from their holidays, others even from illness, to ensure an extraordinary service. During the Christmas holidays, this service operated for 14 hours and fifty minutes daily.

Then, the fault with Mincio. These are things that can happen, but once again, we acted very promptly. At the Peschiera yards, which are usually closed during this period and where all vessels are stored, operations resumed.

The mooring of the ‘Brescia’ ferry was completed in record time, and the ship was immediately sent to Upper Garda to replace the Mincio.

Meanwhile, given the severity of the damage sustained by the vessel, a technician from Germany was called, who arrived today at noon (yesterday, ed.). More than that…
