Exhibition on Nietzsche’s Life and Legacy Opens at Casinò di Arco
With “Views on Nietzsche” at the Casinò di Arco, the series of events begins with the overarching title “The Relevance and Irrelevance of Nietzsche’s Thought,” organized by Liceo Maffei, the Civic Library of Riva, the municipalities of Riva and Arco, the Superintendence, and Iprase, in commemoration of the centenary of the philosopher’s death (which actually occurred in 1900).
While awaiting the conference scheduled for April 6 and 7 at the Hotel du Lac, the celebrations start today at 6 PM with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition installed at the Casinò, featuring 110 images.
One-third of these images depict Nietzsche from the age of 16 until just before his death and showcase a surprising array of faces and figures from European intellectual life between the 18th and 19th centuries: Beethoven, Hölderlin, Schopenhauer, Wagner, Lou Andreas Salomé, friends, and study companions.
Documentation and Collaborating Figures
The role of Elizabeth, the sister who founded the Weimar archive and who was an ardent supporter of Hitler and the inspiration behind several initiatives—some misleading—regarding her brother’s literary legacy, is also extensively documented.
In addition to those dedicated to Nietzsche, there are “Views of Hotel Life“, photographs by Francesca Witzmann of Du Lac during the time of Mitteleuropa, included as an appendix.
