Brescia-Trento 45 Bis Road Reopening Pending Final Commission Report
Will the 45 bis reopen to traffic between Limone and Riva? And if so, when? The answer will come from the report of the mixed Brescia-Trento commission, which is about to finalize studies and reports in the coming days, before sending its conclusions to local authorities for the final decision.
Possible interventions and ongoing works
One hypothesis circulating, with caution, is the possible reopening of the highway with a single lane in each direction, assisted by a «safety car», a safety vehicle similar to those used in Formula One, which would take turns leading the convoy to guide it beyond the landslide wall.
The 45 bis also bears other open wounds in the Tormini area, near Villanuova. In recent weeks, discussions have focused on construction sites in spring. It is not to be excluded that these may be postponed to autumn, after the tourist season (discussed alongside).
Safety concerns and interventions in critical areas
The well-known safety issue on the 668 «Lenese» route: an agreement of the Municipalities has been adopted for a planned expenditure of about 20 billion euros necessary to eliminate critical points. The initial allocations will be redirected to the Termicone of Montichiari and to the junction between Quinzanese and Lenese.
Good news also for the «Perla», the intersection at the gates of Desenzano; signage is the only element missing to reach full completion, scheduled by June. The final section of the variant of state road 11 between Lonato and Ponte San Marco is postponed again—until the end of the year, for the umpteenth time.
Blame for this goes to the tunnel between Ponte and Campagnola di Bedizzole, which must be upgraded according to regulations issued after the Mont Blanc tragedy.
The new section of state road 11, between the end of the Southern bypass and Travagliato, remains stalled, awaiting funding.
Future prospects and planned works
The Southern bypass instead looks forward to next year with hope: the hope is to reach the tender phase for the widening project between Brescia Ovest and Brescia Centro.
Responsibility for commissioning the completion of Sp 19 (2.5 billion euros), which stops at Fenili Belasi, up to the Brescia est interchange, lies with Società Autostrade Centro Padane.
