Cinque Continenti Parking Overhaul Planned After Safety Concerns
A new owners’ assembly for the Cinque Continenti parking boxes will take place on Friday, May 4th, to decide whether to proceed with the project to bring the garages up to standard. This involves about a hundred underground parking spaces that have been cleared and closed with gates in recent months by order of Mayor Sigurtà. The mayor’s decision was prompted by a report from the fire brigade, which found a complete disregard for safety regulations.
Essentially, the owners have been deemed non-compliant regarding ventilation, lighting, and electrical systems, not to mention that in some cases, emergency exits have been converted over the years into additional parking spaces. For this reason, the mayor has declared the garages inaccessible, while also promising the municipal administration will undertake efforts to bring them up to code and reopen the underground facilities.
Upcoming developments and planned interventions
Following an initial meeting of the owners, during which a technician was tasked with preparing a quote for the necessary work on the systems to meet safety requirements, the condominium owners will reconvene to evaluate the project and the associated costs. Most residents of Cinque Continenti have already expressed interest in continuing along the path outlined by Sigurtà.
Meanwhile, on the municipality’s initiative, septic tanks have been drained, and a leak in the sewer system has been repaired. “This is a pressing need for the neighborhood,” explained the mayor on multiple occasions. “Even if it’s private property, given the conditions of the area, the administration cannot turn a blind eye.”
