Nautica “Il Timone” promotes Lake Garda boating and environmental issues
The Nautica “Il Timone” association was officially presented at Cascina Capuzza in San Martino della Battaglia, in the presence of presidents and various authorities. The new cultural association is presided over by Ginetto Polloni.
The aim of this organization, as explained by president and founder Polloni, is to “promote the culture and sportsmanship of boating on Lake Garda. We are people who have no personal political objectives but intend to serve the community, united by shared sporting interests.”
Among us are representatives of different cultures or sporting disciplines such as open-water swimming (not in pools), multi-paddler canoe racing, kayaking, small sailboats. Among us are also expert boat builders specializing in lake boats or motorboats, sports medicine specialists, and others.
In short, all united under the banner of sport and friendship. Several objectives have been set, such as proposing to the Lombardia Region, by 2001, the enactment of measures for the “dismantling” of old combustion engines and incentives for electric motors.
Environmental Issues and Future Goals
Regarding ecology, “a hot topic,” highlighted Ginetto Polloni, “not shared by everyone, but someone had to address it. It concerns the conflict between animal rights activists and environmentalists over the uncontrolled proliferation of aquatic animals along the shores of Lake Garda.”
“Certainly beautiful to look at, beneficial to the landscape, but it must be remembered,” recalled President Polloni, “that their impurities now pollute ports and beaches, creating health inconveniences for tourists and bathers.”
Another goal for the near future is the creation of a Navigation School. Among other plans is the intention to establish a “dry dock” for approximately 80 boats.
“An issue,” Ginetto himself noted, “that will make skeptics and ignorants smile: we will try to be the last to laugh!”
