Desenzano Hospital Relaunch: €1.2B Upgrade, New Systems, and Staff Growth
The financial statement of a year of presence and activity, along with the most significant intervention programs for a major relaunch of the Desenzano hospital. One year after Angelo Foschini took the top position at the Garda hospital company, he wanted to meet with his collaborators, medical and paramedical staff, and local authorities. An opportunity to discuss healthcare, improvement initiatives, and the enhancement of medical-diagnostic equipment.
Regarding the future intervention program, Foschini emphasized that “the new IT system is nearing completion, which will enable communication among the various corporate healthcare facilities (besides Desenzano, there are Lonato, Gavardo, Salò, Leno, and Manerbio), but most importantly, it will save time and contain costs.” In this context, a call center will be activated to serve as an interface with users.
With 1.2 billion euros provided by the Region, the first phase of operating room upgrades will commence: to prevent surgical activity from being blocked during works, a provisional operating block will be set up. The current entrance will also be completely renovated: the project includes a connecting roof between the external access and the internal one with automatic doors, thereby creating a large disembarkation area with a bar and restaurant.
Renewals in structures and services
Changes are also planned for the Poliambulatori (outpatient clinics): acoustic and light alerts for calling patients will be installed. The Diabetology Center will relocate from the ASL premises to the current premises occupied by the technical office in the building opposite the hospital, where patients will benefit from a more spacious and comfortable environment.
The work is nearing completion on the building in front of the hospital to make space for the switchboard, the information office, and the archive of medical records. The rooms vacated by the Ophthalmology unit will be used partly for expanding the laboratory and the transfusion center, as well as for new spaces such as the gynecological day hospital and digestive endoscopy.
The new “Doozinanti” ward (the private paid ward) will also come into operation. In terms of equipment, the company has invested nearly 2.8 billion euros in Desenzano and Lonato. An answer is provided for nurse emergencies.
Investments and staff growth
The company, as recalled by the General Director, has invested 250 million euros to compensate for services provided by the staff during their absence. To address the severe nursing shortage, a public open call was issued, and over the course of a year, Desenzano saw a net increase of 39 staff members, of whom 30 are nurses.
Present at the meeting were also directors Alfonso Castellani and Serafino Gardoni, the facility director Francesco Vassallo, the manager Giampaolo Bragantini, Guidobaldo Baldi representing the municipal administration, and the presidents of Avis and Ufficio di pubblica tutela.
