Desenzano Reopens Spiaggia d’Oro After Two-Year Closure and Renovation
After two years of forced and debated closure, the Spiaggia d’Oro, the municipal beach resort located between Desenzano and Rivoltella, reopens its doors. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, in the presence of local authorities.
The beach had been supposed to open to bathers already two years ago but, following a series of incredible bureaucratic setbacks (notably marked by repeated stops decreed by the Soprintendenza ai Beni Ambientali di Brescia), the gates had to remain sadly closed. This situation became unsustainable as months passed and simultaneously embarrassing for the municipal administration, which was forced to turn upside down its projects.
The causes of the closure and renovation works
The Soprintendenza, in turn, decided to annul the projects because they caused significant earth excavation and, consequently, altered the naturalistic and landscape features of the area. A ping-pong game, we repeat, that lasted too long, causing enormous discomfort for tourists and residents in the neighborhoods around via Michelangelo, via Agello, and Rivoltella, who had to resort to the only small beach adjacent to the Rivoltella marina.
Additionally, for the Municipality, it represented a considerable economic loss, since it still had to pay the concession fee to the Demanio, though it received not a single penny in return. But now it’s history, as underlined by Tommaso Giardino, the councilor, who found himself in serious embarrassment over the Spiaggia d’Oro project.
The management and renovation works
The new beach resort will be managed by the Cooperativa «Garda Executive», which already has a positive collaborative relationship with the Municipality. The intervention area covers about 17,000 square meters, of which 9,500 are equipped green space.
The works included the creation of a new public parking lot for over 50 cars, a zone designated as a playground (currently being completed), the pedestrianization of the tree-lined avenue that connects the main road to the lake, an expansion of the public equipped beach with 350 sun loungers and about 100 umbrellas, new public restrooms and showers, and a multifunctional entertainment area.
Moreover, the lighting systems across the entire area were upgraded, along with the pedestrian walkway along the green space, directly connected to the beach. The parking area of the former History (a short-lived discotheque) was renovated with an expanded entrance. The facility has also been fenced off to prevent vandalism during nighttime hours.
It will remain open from 9 a.m. to approximately 11:30 p.m., though the exact hours are still to be finalized with the management. There will also be opportunities to rent pedal boats, catamarans, surfboards, and bicycles.
Events and services for visitors
Naturally, bathers will have access to a bar-restaurant serving packaged foods. To celebrate the highly anticipated event, the Tourism Department has organized, starting from 3 p.m. on Friday, a kite display and musical entertainment with the Duo «Titti Castrini».
Following this, as mentioned earlier, the official ceremony will take place. With the reopening of the Spiaggia d’Oro, Desenzano’s beach accommodation offer is enriched and completed, although it still lacks the realization of a long-standing dream — the Idroscalo owned by the Air Force. But as the saying goes, it’s a bit like the sign that reads “Touch… and you die”.
