Riva’s Mastio Reopens as Key Tourist Stop on New Heritage Route

Open-mouthed expressions of enthusiasm for the small group of people who, yesterday morning—on the day of the official public opening—climbed up to the Mastio of the Rocca. To greet the visitors, guided by Mayor Cesare Malossini, Deputy Mayor Pietro Matteotti, and Councillor for Culture Luigi Marino, was medieval music performed by a wind trio assembled for the occasion (Maestro Mario Lutterotti, played alongside Michele Brigà and Christian Santer), creating a suggestive atmosphere against the spectacular panoramic view enjoyed by the visitors.

The reopening and the tourist route

The Mastio, which as Marino mentioned should have been ready by Easter, will become an important stop on the tourist route “Riva dall’Alto – Riva da Dentro.” A strategy that, with a single ticket, provides the opportunity to visit the Civic Museum, the Torri Apponale, and the Mastio itself.

The historic rooms

Before ascending the tower, it’s worth taking a tour of the rooms that contain historic photographs of Riva—from the bombings of the Great War to the faces of Riva’s resistance martyrs, passing through projects for tramways that were never realized.
