Arco’s Palio delle Frazioni Sparks Youth Rivalries and Tradition
The international running event “Città di Arco” is a sporting festival that involves the town of Arco for an entire weekend. Among the various events accompanying this seventh edition, which will kick off in two days, the Palio delle frazioni is certainly the most anticipated appointment.
Event Description
The event, designed to rekindle in young residents of Arco the flavor of ancient challenges from the past (shown in the photo from a previous edition), will involve teams from all the fractions of Arco, from the historic center to Bolognano, from Caneve to Chiarano, Massone, Pratosaiano, Vignole, Vigne, Varignano, Ceole, and Padaro, as well as S. Giorgio, Grotta, and Linfano.
The competitors will be the same young boys who will take part in an exciting relay race: each runner must complete a full lap around the Collegiata, covering approximately 300 meters in total.
Race Details and Traditions
The challenge will start at 9 p.m. on Friday, immediately after the parades of the different fractions, featuring traditional costumes and banners.
The Palio delle Frazioni aims to revive the fighting spirit that animated past contests, where the young residents of Arco, coming from various local centers, established friendly rivalries with peers from other villages or neighboring districts.
Once the “palio” (of purely symbolic value) is won, it will remain on display, open to the public, at the headquarters of the Cassa Rurale di Arco until the next edition. Each year, the name of the winning fraction will be inscribed on the trophy’s plaque.
